Many of you will be aware that, just before Christmas, a member suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while playing at Northern Squash and sadly passed away. A number of people stepped in immediately to offer assistance, and on behalf of the Committee we want to express our sincere appreciation for their efforts. We understand that the family took comfort in knowing that everything possible was done.
In light of this incident, we felt it may be helpful to share guidance from the British Heart Foundation on CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) and the use of an automated external defibrillator, like the one available at Northern. These are skills that can save lives both within the club and elsewhere.

The BHF resources include step-by-step instructions, interactive training that uses your phone to check your technique, and advice on recognising a cardiac arrest.
Additional guidance is also available from other organisations, such as the UK Resuscitation Council, whose Lifesaver website (http://lifesaver.org.uk/) provides interactive video scenarios.
We would also encourage all members to familiarise themselves with the location of the club’s defibrillator, which can be found by the main entrance door.
